Project Description

Client: Pireus Bank
Civil Engineers: Penelis Consulting Engineers S.A.

The building was statically and seismically strengthened in 1996 by using R/C jackets. Recently vertical hairline cracks were observed at many columns. The main cause of this effect was determined to be the ongoing corrosion of the old reinforcement of the initial columns build in 1927 which continued after the strengthening. This resulted in the increase of the volume of the initial reinforcement and resulted in vertical cracks of the jacket. A permanent cathodic protection system was proposed and designed using sacrificed anodes.
